Scalix and MS Outlook

Postby Douglas » Tue Jun 10, 2008 9:47 am

I have 2 users that cannot open their e-mail if they are not connected to the local network.
They are premium users on the scalix server.
I cannot access the smart cache settings on the scalix connector. I have tried removing and re adding the account in outlook.
What i do see is that there is no PST file being created.

any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Have you created a profile for these users on another PC?

If that works, then when you removed and readded the account (I think you mean profile) in Outlook, you must have missed a file or two when you deleted the profile.

Smartcache doesn't use a PST file, but stores it directly in the profile directory in a DB format.

What version are you using (server and client)? And what happens when you set up, when you "I cannot access the smart cache settings on the scalix connector.". What do you see?

Scalix connect - ver 11.3
Scalix server - ver 11.1 (if it is the version number displayed on the administration console)

on the Scalix connector, the smartcache settings option is greyed out. I cannot select it.
I checked if the user is a local admin, and is.

Mmm ... do NOT run a new client against an old server. In 11.3 there are some features that need server-side support (editing of emails, for one). This could potentially be where your issue is. Otherwise check that the user is allowed to use SC in SAC.

From the same place you got the 11.3 connector, or in the community downloads area (there's an archive link) on the Scalix website. You will need to run the same version as the server or a lower version, I would recommend the same version.

I walked on to this site 2 weeks ago, and had to support everything, so i can't get the scalix connector from where it came originally.
I cannot find the archive link you refer to. I looked under community downloads.

Go to http://www.scalix.com/community/downloads/index.php, then on the left click on Community Edition, then fill in your details. The next page has a link right at the bottom, above the footer: For older Scalix Community Edition downloads please visit our archive. Click on the word "archive" and scroll down until you find the Binary Client Packages. The 11.1.0 connector is there.

If possible I would suggest an upgrade (server and clients) to 11.4.0, though. Lots of feature improvements and bugfixes.

I am having the issue of the SmartCache settings beinging grayed out as well. I am running Scalix Server 11.4.5 and Outlook Client Connector 11.4.5.9045. I perfer to be able to use the SmartCache on an individual basis and not enterprise wide. I have followed all the documentation for using the SamrtCache for individuals and still cannot get to the SmartCache Settings in the Scalix Properties. I am looking at this because I need to setup a user to use the new ActiveSync 1.0.1 with an iPhone and what I saw was that the SmartCache needed to be setup and optimized for Mobile use.

Any advice?

Hi,
The SmartCache is completely unrelated to ActiveSync. You should skip this step.

SmartCache settings are only available in a profile where SmartCache was enabled during the profile creation.

cheers,
Dirk

I do understand that the SmartCache and ActiveSync are different. However, according to a post that gives steps for getting the ActiveSync to work, it talks about setting the SmartCache with Optimize for Mobile access which requires getting to the SmartCache Settings which is grayed out and I cannot get to these settings.

Is this not the case? Do I or do I not need to make changes to the SmartCache Settings to set the Optimize for Mobile access?

Which post are you referring to?
ActiveSync needs a valid license, the ActiveSync application (scalix-wireless), a working API, a mailbox which is enabled for AS usage and finally a device which is capable to handle the MS Exchange AS protocol.
No Windows-PC, no Outlook, no Scalix Connect, no SmartCache.

The AS enabled license notification messages have a link to the AS-Releasenotes whith informations related to the requirements.
