SWA or MS Outlook...

Postby nader » Wed Jan 11, 2006 9:53 am

Hi,

I am evaluating whether to buy seats of Outlook 2003 for my users, or simply use SWA. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that a new release of Scalix will be available in Q1 of 2006. I would rather not purchase Outlook if SWA would do the Job for us, so I have a few questions:

1 - Is there really a release planned for Q1 of 2006 with improvements to SWA?
2 - Is there a "short-list" of improvements to SWA available?
3 - At the least, it would be great if I knew if delegation, or tasks will be available in the next release.

Any info would help out.

Kind Regards,

Nader.

Hi Nader,

Here is the SWA snippet from the Release Notes for 10

* Enhanced user Interface – enhanced appearance, performance and productivity via improved menus, toolbars, and search bar.
* Personal distribution lists – create and manage personal distribution lists from the Contacts folder.
* Resource scheduling -- look up free/busy information for resources (e.g. conference room, projector) and schedule them when creating a meeting request.
* Address lookup for composition – look up and select recipients from the Scalix System directory or your personal contacts while composing messages (by pressing To/Cc/Bcc buttons).
* New “Options” screen – accessible via Tools>Options, the new screen replaces the old “Preferences” screen and includes password and signatures and several new options.
* Personalized calendar – new options include default calendar view, calendar start and end times, and number of days included in the upcoming appointments pane.
* Date and time format customization – several formats for English and German-speaking regions are now available for the user to choose from.
* SWA login window changes after successful login to inform the user that a login has successfully taken place.

We expect to see delegate capabilities for SWA, hopefully, in Q2. Tasks? Maybe Q4 or Q1 07.

Regards,
Don
