Installer Wizard finishes without installing anything

Brand new scalix 11.3 U1 server. CentOS 5.1

Windows XP service Pack 2.
Office 2007 Basic SP1
scalix connect 11.3U1

I extract the setup file to the desktop and run it locally. I used 7-zip to extract fully, NOT running from windows compressed folders or network paths etc etc.

The following error pops up immediately.

"The wizard was interrupted before scalix connect for Microsoft Outlook could be completely installed.

Your system has not been modified. To complete installation please run setup at another time."

So i extracted the MSI file out of the setup.exe. Got the same error.

So i ran the msi file with full logging enabled.

Ok just found out what this was......

I was using the office customization kit to install office and one of the packages i added to install after office completed was....

SaveAsPDFandXPS.exe

This is from the Microsoft site.

After i removed it from the pc i could happily install scalix connect without issue.

Obviously an incompatibility. I'll raise a bug.

While i was able to install scalix connect after removing the plugin above i am now getting the same issue as here......

When you try to add a profile it crashes, but the second time you go into it if you throw a username and password in it will work. But something's screwy.

And on a second machine i had exactly the same issue. Even if i remove office completely, i had already given up on the pdf plugin so that never even got installed, reboot and try to install scalix connect with no MS office products i still get the same error. Go figure....

on the second machine i have no office products installed at all. either run setup.exe locally or the extracted msi file and i get the original error saying that the installation wizard got interrupted.

Hello i have the same Problem with the Connector like the Subject!

I am opening the Outlook an want some password: but the passwort question comes back an back.

Then ich would make some new Profile but the Error Comes like this:

i have installed a profile with ssl and smart cache Server also Uptodate and omshowlog looks so:

i eventually got around my problems. A bit of a mixed bag, but here's a quick run down.

Outlook 2007 has some quirks with scalix. These do not happen with Outlook 2003.

Outlook 2007 needs to be installed before installing scalix.

the error about MLCFG32.CPL is caused by outlook not being the default mail client when scalix is installed.
In addition to resolve you need to remove scalix connect, remove any profiles created, manually delete c:\program files\scalix, then go to Internet Explorer properties, under programs set Microsoft Outlook as the default mail editor. Then you can reinstall scalix connect.

Start outlook BEFORE setting up a scalix profile. Let the wizard run, configure a profile with no email accounts. then close outlook, go to control panel, mail, remove the outlook profile and add the scalix profile.

when installing scalix connect the sxlogger application will pop up after the installer finishes. Maximize it, untick "keep open" and close the window. You may get a fatal exception, don't worry, it doesn't seem to have lasting effects.

Disable unnecessary com addins via the trust centre. itunes, exchange extensions, sharepoint etc. Some cause real havoc with scalix connect. itunes especially.
The saveaspdfandxps plugin has proved to work fine, no problem with it as i originally had thought.

A lot of my issues ended up being because office 97 was the previous version and, surprise, surprise, the uninstaller never removed everything leaving behind files which conflicted with office 2007. The office resource kit came to the rescue with a great cleaner tool.

Despite that i still had 2 machines where scalix would not instal, even after trying all the tricks above. I had to reinstall windows on both those machines.

As i said, a mixed bag, but those are the issues i've had and how i got around them. Hopefully they can help you solve your issues too. good luck :)

Hi guys

I did everything as mentioned here but still without no luck. Profile is created, when I get to Scalix Connector
I enter data which server, username, password and I also turn on SmartCache. From past errors I now that
connector at this stage connects to server and if it is OK it allows to procede.

So I finalize creating new profile. But when I'm try to open Outlook 2007 Enterprise Edition Outlook reports
"No profiles have been created. To create a new profile, use Mail icon in the Control Panel."

I tried all other possibilites, to remove/delete everything, set Outlook to default etc...I have removed
all profiles and started from beggining. Same situation.

Web access is working excellent.

Well I can't complain to much for opensource software. I'm not happy becouse I really wanted to install
in our company alternative to Microsoft Exchange but it seems that there are so many issues connecting
Scalix with Outlook. Unfortunatelly every company is using Outook as default client and escpecially with
2007 Office with new interface this will not change.

I tried to find why Scalix doesn't use POP and SMTP server as many others do...this should be standard
which is not dependant from Microsoft. But I'm not technical guru in mail field...

Well anyway...for month or two...I will run Scalix until I get Windows Server SBS 2008 fully runing....

I checked again documentation for installing Scalix under section REQUIRMENTS:

E-mail client software
• Microsoft Outlook versions 2000, XP, 2003, and 2007
• Novell Evolution, versions 2.4, 2.6, and 2.8
Outlook Express is not recommended because functionality and security are poor.

Operating systems (for client workstations)
• Windows 2000 and XP for Microsoft Outlook. All earlier versions of Windows are not
supported, regardless of the version of Microsoft Outlook installed.
• Fedora 6 for Novell Evolution
Windows Vista is known to work with some limitations but is not officially supported.

I wonder if I would contact official Scalix support while evaluating if they could give me some answer.

Couple of my co-workers liked a lot Scalix WebMail since it's in Java and fast compared with Microsoft WebMail which
is ASP and slow.

Hi just to give more update regarding Scalix and Office 2007.

At company where I installed Scalix client to connect my Outlook I managed with
all changes to crash Outlook so that now it's not usable anymore.

On other hand I didn't install any scalix client on my private PC with Vista+Office 2007.

I have just create new IMAP account and it's working.

Which gives me back some positive energy to continue using Scalix as email server.

Outlook 2007 + Vista Business 32-bit is definitely working, as I use that on my office PC. Don't have the release notes in front of me, but I believe this has been supported for a few releases now. The documentation are likely out of date on this issue.

Normally what I do is this:

- Start -> Control Panel, switch to Classic View
- Click the Mail icon
- Go to Show Profiles, then Add to add a new profile
- On the bottom, select the "Manual configuration" option
- There I select Scalix Connect and then follow the steps
- When done, make sure the new profile is listed in the mail applet before closing it. Also, make sure the profile is selected in this screen

Haven't yet had a OL 2k7 + Vista issue where the profile isn't created properly.

Since I'm newbie with Scalix I would like to report that I have success to connect Outlook
also with other machines without Scalix connector.

I add just new IMAP account and that's it.

Can somebody tell me if there is real difference to use Outlook without connector
or there is some features which connector gives to Outlook?

Via IMAP you can get access to your mailbox, true. However, with the connector and a Premium User you can get access to cross-user collaboration, better integration with the Public Folders and a better address book than LDAP provides. Also, you get your own Calendar and Contacts folders, which IMAP normally doesn't provide server-side.
