I've noticed that the whole "Open Shared Calendar"-item is missing in Outlook 2007!
I can see the shared calendars I've added before update (with Outlook 2003), but unable to add any more. I've filed a bug on this to BugZilla with number 16639 - interestingly waiting for response from Scalix.
Of course it could be just that I don't know how to activate this feature, but it was there by default on Outlook 2003 so would be unlikely that it's "hidden" somewhere in 2007.

ive noticed the same, found one way round, create a new calendar in public folder, and then set the permissions after. Outlook picks that up fine, but not shared home calendars
hum i stand corrected, thats doesnt seem to work now :S
ahhh.... ^^, it does but it needs an entry to show up

I have the same problem with the user calendars.
The only thing i dont get is : How can a calendar in the public folder be a substitute about the entire calendar function?
The public calendar is not the same as the personal calendar, when adding a appointment the free/busy schedule is read from the users personal calendar etc etc ..
How do u resolve this? Could u sync the personal calendar with the public calendar or something like that?

We have some users that share their personal calendars (using delegates). However, sometimes the user that is wanting to view the calendar has to click on the other user's mailbox in the "mail" section of Outlook 2007 before their calendar will show up under the "calendar" section. This goes for shared contacts as well.
As far as syncing goes, I believe I was told before that public folders cannot sync to a user's folder. (I was wanting to sync a contacts folder)

I'm coming from a non-exchange/outlook background. I'm using Outlook 2007 with Scalix Connector 11.4.4 to Scalix Server 11.4.4 (Community Ed, but I am a premium user). I can't share my calendar with another scalix user from within Outlook? From what I read in the Outlook help, I should be able to click "Share My Calendar", to send a "special" email to another user to grant them permission & request permission to see there calendar. I don't have that option. Am I supposed to? Is the delegate option under the SWA the only way to share calenders?
Sorry for the noob questions, but for an absolute exchange/outlook beginner, there does not seem to be any "how to do the basics" documentation anywhere. I guess it's assumed that people are migrating from Exchange?
While I'm at it, as one that is coming from a standard pop/imap/smtp (exim) mail server & Thunderbird, can someone briefly highlight what exchange/outlook gives you other than shared calendaring. Or is shared calendaring the big thing with exchange?
Your time is appreciated,
Glen

To share your calendar from within Outlook (or any other folder for that matter) you just right click on the item in Outlook, click Properties, go to the Permissions tab, click Add and find the user in the System address book, then set the individual permissions for that person. That person then must go into their Outlook, click Tools, Scalix Properties, go to the Advanced Tab, click Add and type in the other user's name (i.e. John Smith) and click ok, then ok again. Then they should have that persons "mailbox" listed when looking at the mail in folder view. They will then see whatever resources they have been given access to.
As far as I am concerned, the reason we switched to Scalix (or why we switched to any "exchange-like" system) was to easily share information (calendar, emails, contacts) as well as consolidating all of the data to one location for backup and organizational purposes.
Also, I have never really used Exchange either... Scalix is fairly easy to learn and administrate using the Wiki and especially these forums.

Richard, thanks for the instructions. It worked. Although, my calendar did show up twice in the other users calendar list, I'm sure that will come out in the wash. Thanks for the tips.
Kind regards,
Glen
