To share your calendar from within Outlook (or any other folder for that matter) you just right click on the item in Outlook, click Properties, go to the Permissions tab, click Add and find the user in the System address book, then set the individual permissions for that person. That person then must go into their Outlook, click Tools, Scalix Properties, go to the Advanced Tab, click Add and type in the other user's name (i.e. John Smith) and click ok, then ok again. Then they should have that persons "mailbox" listed when looking at the mail in folder view. They will then see whatever resources they have been given access to.
As far as I am concerned, the reason we switched to Scalix (or why we switched to any "exchange-like" system) was to easily share information (calendar, emails, contacts) as well as consolidating all of the data to one location for backup and organizational purposes.
Also, I have never really used Exchange either... Scalix is fairly easy to learn and administrate using the Wiki and especially these forums.

I have officially quit using Scalix, but continue to visit the forums
