look for bugs in fixed/resolved/closed state with sxlogger in the summary line. i don't have the IDs at hand and right now not in a position to do the search for me. ;-)

Hello Florian,

I just found this one http://bugzilla.scalix.com/show_bug.cgi?id=15472

but does not looks to me to be exactly the same bug as described in this thread.

jus re-read the thread -there are two problems described...

- sxlogger window unexpectedly opening
- outlook displaying sxlogger error/crash while exiting the outlook client

which one are you referring to?

Interesting. This issue has never shown up in our testing so far. I assume you've looked at the registry settings without any success?

I've asked the developer who maintains sxlogger to read through the thread and see if he has any further ideas on what may causing this.

Does this only happen on a single machine or on multiple different systems?

What registry settings do you mean? Please give me instructions about this.

This behavior happen on different machines.

ShowSXLogger is set to 0 I deleted the value and it gets recreated with a default value of 0x00000000.

I have come across one of my users who is also having the issue of the Scalix Logger application opening.

In this instance it opens when the user logs in to Windows. The registry setting for ShowSXLogger is set to 0x00000000

Version information is in my signature. The only other thing is that the OS Outlook is running on is fully patched Windows XP Professional SP2.

I'll dig into this a little more and try the things suggested here and report back.

Cheers,
Craig

Try this

Postby sharkeyas » Mon Nov 19, 2007 9:42 pm

I got rid of the Scalix Logger window by:
1. Changing the registry value for ShowSXLogger to 1
2. Restarting Outlook (the logger still appeared but this time had all sorts of logging info)
3. Stopping Outlook
4. Changing the registry value for ShowSXLogger to 0
5. Starting Outlook

I have no idea why this would work, but at least for now I'm not getting the Scalix Logger window. Hope this helps someone.

Did not work for me. WinXP Pro SP2/Outlook 2003 SP3/Scalix 11.2 (Connector and Server).

Our problem might be caused by the connector being installed before service packs. We wiped and did a fresh install on a computer having issues. This fixed the SXLogger window opening, but then SXLogger started crashing on exiting Outlook.

We wiped the computer again but installed Outlook 2003's SP3 before installing the Scalix Connector and that seems to have fixed the problem.

Tried this, but it didn't work for me.

My situation is a little different in that Scalix Logger starts when the user logs in. Also, if the user starts Outlook and then closes it the Scalix Connector stays open and communicating with the server!! If you kill it (by killing the running Scalix processes) then you cannot successfully start it again with out rebooting the computer - all that will happen is that it continuously tries to connect to the server, momentarily connects and then immediately disconnects. And then it trys again... and again... and again...

But with a bit of digging I've finally found out why. The user is running a piece of software called Rainlendar - a customizable desktop calendar. This software has a plug-in for Outlook and it seems that it is this that is 'up setting the apple cart' and causing Scalix Logger to start. I found all this out by running Process Explorer and watching what was happening, what was being called from where, etc. I noticed that Rainlendar was starting sxwipe32.

Re-installing the connector did solve the issue of the connector not exiting when Outlook was closed though. So that is part of my problem solved :? :)

Hope there is something in here that is a help to the rest of you who are having problems with Scalix Logger.

The user had also recently been playing with a Palm GSM mobile phone connected to his PC and synchronising with it, so this may have had a bearing on all this also.
