Windows 7, Outlook 2007... SmartCache doesn't work !

Postby GizmotroniX » Tue Apr 20, 2010 10:36 am

Hello,

we have a customer who is using Windows 7 32bit and Office 2007 SMB with Scalix Connect 11.4.6. He want's to work with SmartCache but every time when he opens Outlook a window pop ups showing that the Scalix Office Work Add-In isn't working or installed.

I have reinstalled Scalix Connect several times, tried a new Outlook profile, deactivate and reactivate SmartCache in SAC ... nothing works.

There are any known problems with Win 7 and Outlook 2007 ?

Another question:
When I add a second email account (POP3 from provider) and sending a new email, I can choose from what account this would be sent. But if i choose the POP3 account, it will still sent from my Scalix account (it also appears in my sent items from scalix). Is this normal ? The same thing with contacts, create a new group - it will be automatically attached to the Scalix account and not to my private PST File as i want it.

Cheers,
Roland

Try this:

Uninstall Scalix Connect
Reboot
Install Scalix Connect
Browse to C:\Program Files\Scalix\Connect in Windows Explorer
Doulbe-click on:
sxautoupgrade
sxlogger

Use task manager to kill sxlogger.
Launch Outlook.

Don't know what is going on, but I've seen this issue on multiple machines. It looks like some dll isn't being properly registered by the installer, only I have no idea which one. I tried manually launching every exe in that folder, and then the problem disappeared. I believe it's one the two listed above that "fixes it."

I know this looks a little odd, but it's worked for me three times now.

BTW, adding a second account to the same outlook profile is completely unsupported and WILL cause issues beyond what you are seeing. There is no way around this. You need to setup a second profile (which requires closing/opening Outlook to switch between), or configure something like fetchmail on the server to grab email from pop3 and deposit it into the server account.

Even if one could expect that Windows 7 should work I would first recommend a view into the Release-Notes. Windows 7 is not mentioned in the Supported Environment Section for Scalix Connect. So there is one statement: Its not tested, not supported and not recommend for production use as its hard to get help in case of problems.

All I can say is that we have one Win7 machine using OL2k7 without Smartcache running in the company. Currently no problems. Or at least I dont know about.

What is a "Scalix Office Work" Add-In?
What happens if you try on the same machine without Smartcache?
What happens on another Windows Version, another Outlook version with the same mailbox?

bugzilla.scalix.com is open for everyone. The answer for the question "are there known problem" is to be found there. (yes there are known problems, but I was too lazy to search for your specific issue)

Your last question is answered in http://www.scalix.com/documents/Scalix_Client_Deploy_Guide_11.0.1.pdf at page 20. It is not necessarily a Scalix issue. Outlook has a primary messagestore.

No offense, but I believe that the available documentation should be the first look. And I believe I mentioned it during the first minutes of the training...
