Windows 7 and access to additional mailboxes

Postby pinnks » Thu Nov 12, 2009 5:20 pm

Hi all,

I recently bought a new PC with Vista, loaded Scalix connector 11.4.2 and off i went as usual - no problems loading and using a number of mailboxes for shopping etc. in addition to the default mailbox

Yesterday I upgraded my new PC (upgrade, not fresh install as i could not be bothered to start afresh) to Windows 7 as it was a free upgrade offered on purchase. Everything went (unexpectedly) smoothly except that now I cannot access those additional mailboxes in Outlook.

When I start Outlook I can see the mailboxes and click on the "+" to expand the folders but cannot see any content when i select a folder. The error message is slightly different depending on whether i click on a folder or the mailbox itself.

On a folder like the Inbox i get "Cannot display the folder. Microsoft Office Outlook cannot access the specified folder location. The operation failed."

On the mailbox itself i get "Cannot display the folder. Microsoft Office Outlook cannot access the specified folder location."

I vaguely recall something like this a couple of generations ago (I have bee Scalixing for a few years now) and uninstalling and reinstalling the connector solved the problem then. There was also an issue of adding the IP addy to the hosts file for some issue a while back but my memory is failing these days (haha).

I have tried the following:
1. uninstall and reinstall the connector - no luck
2. remove and reload the additional mailboxes - no luck
3. put the IP addy and mail server name into hosts - no luck
4. checked the permissions on the mailboxes to be added
4. searched this forum - no luck

Also, my son, who is off at uni, and running the same versions of connector and outlook on Windonws 7 has no problem accessing his second mailbox from 200 miles away but cannot do the same over the LAN

I am sure the answer is easy but would appreciate it if anyone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Gary

Oh what a difference a day makes!

Last night Outlook became very, very, very slow - like 3 minutes to change from inbox to sent items - so tonight I decided to delete the Outlook profile, delete Scalix Outlook Connector and remove the MS Outlook Connector, which I had, at some point (presumably when i set-up Outlook on the new PC), added into Outlook.

I loaded the Scalix connector back in and set-up a new Outlook profile with only my main mailbox and got normal performance back. Hooray!

I then added the other mailboxes and hey presto all is back to normal.

Why? Who knows and in some ways who cares!

I suppose I should have take a more logical approach of removing only the MS Outlook Connector etc but life is too short and I am happy.
