Receiving Mail from Pop3 accounts

I notice that Bug 14837 (https://bugzilla.scalix.com/show_bug.cgi?id=14837) has been updated to show that Scalix is again considering this bug, specifically to determine whether or not it can be fixed.

This would be a fantastic enhancement. We have users with a valid need to have both Scalix and external POP/IMAP accounts in the same profile, who have been waiting for a long time on this issue. From the other posts in this thread, it is clear that others are in a similar situation.

Good luck to the developers, we are hoping for a positive resolution!

just thinking out aloud i wonder if this would work........

setup an additional pop3 account in scalix, but turn off the receiving, set it to 127.0.0.1 etc. So effectively you only use it to send, and ultimately you can use an alternative address for the sending. Worst case you might be able to have a pst setup for it to store sent items if it cant write sent items into the scalix mailbox.
Of course this is definitely not supported by Scalix at this stage and its use it at your own risk, i haven't got the time to try it at the moment.

don't bet too much on it just yet.

the change in BugZ is mainly triggered by the fact that we are doing some investigation into Outlook 2010 support, etc., and as such it's a good time to review whether MSFT's interfaces and APIs have changed in any way allowing for something different here.

No conclusions as to feasibility and possible schedule can be taken from that at this time and stage.

And quite obviously we're always keeping an eye on functionality relevant to all or some of our customers, this is no exception.

One question: the subject of this thread refers to pop3 accounts. Am I correct in assuming that you are looking at whether either or both of POP and IMAP accounts can be added to a Scalix profile?

the assumption is that that would be no difference, right. at this point, no additional email service can be added to a scalix profile.
