I don't think it's bandwidth related.....
I present Scalix MAPI through stunnel on our webserver. That's in a tier 1 datacentre with 100Mbit. The link to the real Scalix server is through openVPN and is limited by the bandwidth in our (shared) office which is 10Mbit shared (don't know the contention ratio).
Now, oddly I'm fine on all three laptops at home (one is 12 years old) on a basic 2Mbit DSL link. Opening Outlook takes 20-30 secs. Not quick but acceptable.
We have a new install which the employee left syncing overnight and it never completed. Not sure of her bandwidth, but I've got her laptop for two hours tomorrow to look at that.
We also have another laptop which is being very odd. It loads fine in the office here, but takes over ten minutes to open outlook at home. Here is the 10Mbit shared and home is 8Mbit domestic adsl. It's connecting to the webserver 250 miles away from here despite the real Scalix server being right next to it, 100 miles from home so it's not that it's local in either case. I really don't know what the problem is. I can't understand why the huge difference in performance.
