Major issues with scalix connect and Outlook 2007.

Postby jsluder » Mon Jul 27, 2009 3:31 pm

I am having major issues with the Scalix connector. I have one user that when trying to open Outlook it crashes during Sync. However, this user can open other profiles with no problem.
A second user when trying to open Outlook receives the following error in the smart cache log

Code: Select all

9:57:08 AM  Initializing
9:57:08 AM    Connecting to SmartCache
9:57:08 AM    Succeeded
9:57:08 AM    Connecting to Scalix server
9:57:09 AM    Succeeded
9:57:09 AM    Update Inet Gateway Address In Local Server
9:57:09 AM    Succeeded
9:57:09 AM    Update local/remote time
9:57:10 AM  Synchronizing the following folder(s):
9:57:10 AM     Inbox
9:57:10 AM  Searching for changes on the Scalix server
9:57:10 AM  Cache database is no longer valid, since server mailbox
9:57:10 AM  has moved. Must exit from Outlook
9:57:10 AM  Discarding sync request

omsholog shows for the same user:

Code: Select all

We are running Scalix 11.4.4 on RHEL 5.2 with Outlook 2007. We are in the process of migrating from Novell Groupwise, and so far these are the only two accounts who use the scalix box. We would like to resolve this issue before we complete the migration.

Firstly, try resetting the smartcache via the scalix properties under outlook.

Second, are the machines local? i.e. always on the lan? If so, then you could live without smartcache. Setup a profile without smartcache enabled.

Both machines are laptops and are used at multiple locations, so we need smartcache. I have tried disabling smartcache on the computer where outlook crashes, but the results are still the same. I am unable to keep outlook open on that computer long enough to reset smart cache, but I will try resetting it on the other and update you.

If outlook is crashing with smartcache turned on and turned off then the problem is likely outlook plugins conflicting with the scalix connector.

in 11.4.4 itunes and desktop search should be compatible. Others that aren't, at least from what i've seen, AV plugins (eset, avg among others) and office live addins. As a matter of course i always disable plugins that will never get used depending on environment.

In the trust centre what plugins are enabled in com add-ins and exchange client extensions?

Currently the active plugins are:
Exchange unified messaging
Office Groove Proxy
Office SharePoint Server Colleague Import
Outlook Mobile service
Novell.Groupwise Connector <-- could this be the conflict. We are moving from Groupwise to Scalix
OneNote Notes about Outlook
Scalix Rules Processing Engine
Windows Search Email Indexer

Ok,

Technically you should do it one at a time to determine which one is at fault.

I'd knock out the following....
Groove
Sharepoint
OneNote
Novell Groupwise

See how you go with that.

Disabling those plugins did seem to resolve the issue with outlook crashing. So one error down 1 to go.

are you using roaming profiles? the error message sounds a bit like it isn't finding it's cache files because something is reset.

you may want to consider putting the smartCache location on a spot on your disk that's guaranteed to be local and/or trying w/o SmartCache just to confirm.
