I want to setup permissions on everybody's mailbox in my company so that my boss and I can have access to their mailbox. When we had Exchange, all we had to do was go to add mailbox, type in the name and I could access the mailbox because I have Administrative rights. I figured out I can go to someone's mailbox, add my name, give myself the role of owner and I can have access to that person's mailbox from my Outlook. But instead of adding my name to each mailbox, I wanted to know if Scalix has some kind of group where I could add my name, go to that person's mailbox, add that group to the permissions box and give it the role of owner, and then be able to have access to the mailbox from Outlook?

Can you give me an idea of why you need access to everybody's mailbox ? There may be another way we can achieve what you are looking for.

Cheers

We want access to everyone's mailbox because that was feature we had when we were using Exchange 5.5. Because my boss and I have administrative rights on the network we could in to people's account to solve problems they were having with Outlook, to setup features like auto reply in there mailbox, and my boss just wants to have access to everyone's mailbox. Also we have a lot of project specific mailboxes where multiple people need access to the mailbox. In Exchange all I would do was make a group in active directory, add users to that group, create the mailbox in exchange, give ownership of the mailbox to that group and all the people in that group would have access to that mailbox

Hi,

do you have a solution for your question. I have the same "problem". My customer will have all rights on the usermailbox.

Do you can help me?

best regards,

robert

I Think what you're trying to accomplish can be done by giving yourself the mailbox admin capability (which is different from admin). This should allow you to sign into any mailbox on the system using your own UID and PWD.

I can't remember exactly how to accomplish this, but I can confirm that it can be done, and hopefully Support can provide the specifics.

The problem around this question is more a legal than a technical one; at least in Europe, giving an admin this capability is basically illegal unless you have all your user's sign up for it and even then only if is not allowed by company policy to send private emails (which would automagically turn your email-box into a private postbox that NOONE would be simply allowed to look at).

Having said this, Kevin is quite right that mboxadmin capabilities can be used for this; they were originally introduced into the system for migration (where it is quite necessary that a centralized tool can write to everybodies mailbox).

For the reasons given above and potential abuse of this feature, we would not like to outline the full procedure for using this in the public; please contact our Support directly and we'll discuss this with you.

I also require this in our corporate environment. Can you direct me to some documentation?

Thanks
