Unable to display the folder

Postby peter-s » Sat Dec 17, 2005 5:52 pm

Hi,
I have a set of mail folders and have been dropping messages in the outlook and thunderbird clients to file them.
However, now I get an error in Outlook 2003 whenever I try to browse to some of the subfolders. I get the message on any folder more than two folders deep:
"Unable to display the folder. An unexpected error occurred. Reasons for the failure are unknown."
any pointers would be appreciated
Regards,
Peter

Hi,

Is this happening in "your" sub-folders, or in Public Folders? Are you using T-bird and OL at the same time? What kind of folders are these (regular message/contacts/calendar...)?

Are you using OL Forms or Journaling?

Let me know,

Matthew

Hi,
thanks for replying.
This is happening in my sub folders.
I have at times had OL and TBird open at the same time
The folders are messages

additionally, if I attempt to move the folder up the heirarchy in OL or TB I get an error saying:
OL error: 'Cant move the items. No Description is available for this error.
after exiting the error dialog and OL I then get another dialog - Microsoft Outlook has encountered a problem...etc
I tried sending the error report to MS and the auto suggested option was to update to SP2 - but still have the same problem
ModName: cfilter.dll ModVer: 2.0.0.2 ModStamp:42ce593c
fDebug: 0 Offset: 00018669

TB error: The current command did not succeed. The mail server responded: cannot rename to that mailbox.

By the way I still think this is a GREAT product.

Regards,
Peter

Hi there,
I managed to 'work around' the problem for the interim.
It would appear that there is some form of permissions error, or somehow introduced by having another user (user2) with 'Author' role on my inbox.
On the subfolders more than two deep, I noticed there was no 'permissions' tab shown when inspecting the properties of the folder in OL
However, upon trying to delete or promote the deepest folder, OL says I have no permission to perform the operation.
So I create a duplicate folder in OL (or SWA) one level up the folder heirarchy and copy the items without any problem.
I log into SWA and delete the old items but cannot delete the folder
I log into OL and right click at the top mailbox folder and select properties. I select roles:none and apply
I can now delete the original folder
I can now create a deep folder and copy items back in.
Permissions on the new deep folder now show default/none and user2/author
I can view delete/promote this new folder.

Regards,
Peter
