spam issue to own domain

Postby hj » Wed Aug 20, 2008 8:49 am

I'm slightly confused as how to configure smtpd.conf so that it does not accept unauthenticated mails for our domain. right now, everyone can send fake mails to us using our scalix server. it's not completely open though, sending mails to external domains doesn't work that way, that's only working if the sender authenticates itself.

here's my smtpd.conf, or at least part of it:

# NB Authenticated RELAYs are always allowed
RELAY accept internal_ip
RELAY accept 127.0.0.1
RELAY accept .maildomain1
RELAY accept .maildomain2
RELAY Log_Reject ALL

# Reject all anonymous connections
AUTH_MISMATCH Log_Reject ALL

# extra rules added to prevent open relay usage
RECIPIENT Log_Reject *@*@*
RECIPIENT Log_Reject *%*
RECIPIENT Log_Reject *!*
RECIPIENT Log_Reject *#*@*

is there even a way to avoid that?

I'm not sure that that's what you mean... if you were to disallow all unauthenticated mail, I wouldn't be able to mail you without having a user on your server.

If the message is _for_ you, it's not a relay.

Sounds like you want an antispam solution...

yeah I guess you're right there. after all the configuration, I got slightly confused about what should and what should not be possible.
thanks for the clarification!
