All rules not working

Postby zmanea » Fri Dec 16, 2005 12:53 am

We are evaluating Scalix with a couple of users who were previously on Exchange. One of those users were configured with a server side configuration that would send a copy of their email to their cell phone. We tried to replicate this Exchange feature using a rule forward rule in Scalix however this did not keep the original headers when sent to the phone making it difficult for the user to reply to the email. We then setup a rule using sxaa that would redirect and retain email but this caused all of the other rules for that user to stop working. What are we doing wrong?

Hmmm. Can we please see the output of

sxaa --list --username for one of the users where you say the other rules are disabled?

Cheers,

Sascha.

Not sure what I said I disabled. Below is the output of sxaa for the user. Thank you for your assistance.

OOF AANO ACTION TITLE STATE CREATOR
--- ---- --------------- ------------------------------ -------- -------
1004 REDIRECT SXAA REDIRECT:1004 enabled
1005 DELETE Scalix Rule: CLUE enabled Outlook
1006 DELETE Asterisk-Users enabled

Hi zmanea,

A rules file called 000003d is created in the user's "g" directory. To find the user's directory type...

omshowu -n name/mailnode -f

The output will show the "User Folder" that looks something like this...

User Folder : ~/user/g000037/00000v8:1

In this example the user's folder/"g" directory would be /var/opt/scalix/user/g000037

cd to that directory and type...

tfbrowse -i 000003d

Please post the output.

Thanks,
Don

Output below. FYI, the user has since added a reply rule, titled "Out of office" that appears to work but the other rules are still not working.

Originally I thought this was due to the "wildcards" getting "broken" when sxaa added the redirect rule, but testing this proved not to be the case.

The issue here is that the re-direct rule you've added is flagged to retain a copy in the intray.

The rules that you are seeing as broken are the rules which are trying to delete the message where they have "[clue-talk]" or "[Asterisk-Users]" in the subject.

Because the redirect is marked to retain the intray copy, the "delete" rules aren't kicking in. If you change the redirect rule to *not* retain an intray copy then the delete rules do kick in, but don't celebrate yet.

Unfortunately with this config a "normal" message gets successfully redirected but no copy is left in the intray :-(

In summary, with the redirect retaining the inbox copy the delete rules appear not to work. If you change the redirect to not retain an intray copy, then the message does get redirected and the delete rules do work, but for a normal message (i.e. one that doesn't match the delete pattern) the redirect works and no copy is left in the intray.

I being trying to think of a rules config configuation that would give you what you want, but with current behaviour this doesn't appear possible.

I will raise an Enhancement Request to change to the behaviour, such that a redirect with a retained intray copy is still subject to further rules processing.

Cheers,
JG
