Large external email lists...

Postby binarynomad » Mon Dec 12, 2005 10:41 pm

We have a need for large email lists that the management team need to send out to, for example: (investors@mycompany.com) which is a list of 100+ users, all of which have external email addresses.

As far as I can tell I have two options:

1) Create each and every investors email address as (internet users) in the scalix system, and then add them all to a investors group that I have created.

or

2) Edit the (/etc/aliases) file on the scalix server and add them all to an alias (investors: email, email, email, etc)

Is this correct? It seems much easier to maintain the (alias) version than the (group and internet user) version.

Hi. You don't have to create each investor as an Internet user (although I would imagine at some point you're going to be asked to do so). To add the names to a PDL without creating them as entries first use the following:

omaddpdln -l Investors -n ddv1=richie.rich@richindustries.com/ou1=internet -x

or just put:

ddv1=richie.rich@richindustries.com/ou1=internet
ddv1=gloria.glad@richindustries.com/ou1=internet
ddv1=richard.rich@richindustries.com/ou1=internet
ddv1=regina.rich@richindustries.com/ou1=internet

in a file such as "investors.txt" then type:

omaddpdln -l Investors -f investors.txt -x

Or, as you've said, you can add them to your /etc/aliases file.

Thanks,
Rachel
