Views on Dell, HP RAID cards

Hi all,

I'm getting quotes from the above vendors for a client & I wonder if anyone has any views on the SAS HBAs that would be supplied, either the Dell PERC5/i or HP Smart Array E200? I've read some articles about poor performance with the PERC5s (Megaraid) & Linux, but these seem to pertain to older versions/distros.

If necessary I'll source the card separately & go with a 3ware or Areca, but obviously this complicates things somewhat.

This'll be on Centos 5 BTW.

TIA.

The driver megaraid driver changed a while ago, new distros no longer support old cards. This is truly a pain every time you upgrade you need a kernel recompile.

Other than that, they work fine. Just make sure that you get a *real* raid card, rather than software RAID. They're well worth the difference in cost. You should expect to see at least 64Meg included, or there's a problem.
