Scalix Server is based on HP OpenMail technology, which Scalix has licensed from Hewlett-Packard. Many people have asked us: "what has Scalix done to improve on OpenMail." Below is an extensive (but not completely exhaustive) list of innovations available in the Scalix Email and Calendaring Platform:

Overall
o Server development optimized for Linux and open systems architecture
o Significantly enhanced Outlook compatibility and Exchange interoperability
o Zero-impact migration process
o Added Scalix Web Access, a next generation web client with the performance, usability and look-and-feel of a desktop application
o Completed an extensive documentation upgrade, including a new Migration Guide and enhanced Administration Guide

The following new Scalix features, performance improvements and bug fixes will be uniformly appreciated by those familiar with OpenMail:

Transparent Full-function Outlook Support
o Outlook 2002 (Version 10) support
o Outlook 2003 (Version 11) support*

o Created a network connection recovery process that improves user experience with Outlook on unreliable networks and when resuming laptop sessions from suspend/hibernate mode.
o Ability to create sub-folders off of the Inbox folder
o Internet headers viewable from View->Options menu

Next Generation Power Web Client, Scalix Web Access

o MAPI interoperability from Web client

Server Scalability, Reliability and Administration

o New Web Administration Console for user and distribution list management*
o Role-based administration within the Web Administration Console*
o Certified Scalix Server on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1 and 3 and Red Hat Linux 9

Interoperability with Exchange and Other Messaging Systems
o "What You See Is What They Sent" message fidelity and interoperability for mixed Exchange/Scalix deployments
o LDAPSync directory synchronization application linking Exchange and LDAP directories with the Scalix directory (new application with no relationship with the OpenMail Exchange Connector)
o Active Directory integration for user management, provisioning, authentication and single sign-on support*

Migration
o Zero impact migration process for migrating mailboxes to Scalix
o Automated initial distribution and upgrade of Scalix Connect for Microsoft Outlook, without requiring a desktop visit

3rd-party Product Support
