Hi Guys,

I`m new here and new to Scalix so please be gentle.
I`m not familiar with Scalix at all and have kinda thrown in at the deep end..

Basically I`ve been appointed IT Manager of a small company and the previous IT Manager left on bad terms. He chose to use Scalix for E-Mail, which having had a look at it over the last few weeks was a great choice cosidering the price of exchange etc.
Problem is, I have not got a clue where to look for support in the UK.
ITS Linux have went bust, and having phoned Andreas at Scalix he said Abtech are now our main Support outlet.
That is fair enough, but I`m looking for alternatives, or for direction as to where i can learn about Scalix other than the SAC Manual.
I`ve learned almost everything in it, but at the back end, I need to learn about what it runs on. I think we are using somthing calles SUSE Linux??
We had a problem last week and we had a major mail block of 703 mails and I managed to run OMSHUT and OMRC and the mail all came through, but basically where can I learn all of the UNIX/LINUX commands and switches necessary cos my boss ain`t too happy and is talking about ditching Scalix and moving to Exchange which I know???

First, congrats on the appointment and my condolences on accepting it.

Seriously though, scalix is collection on open source tools (apache, tomcat, sendmail, postgres ) running on top of, in your case, Suse OS - flavor of Linux. Plus some extra like web interface, smtp, etc.

"...I think we are using somthing calles SUSE Linux?? ... " telling me that you ain't familiar with Linux. Suse is number one Linux distro in Europe (feel fre to correct me if it is not any longer). LINUX IS MUST if you are running scalix. If you don't plan on learning Linux in next 30 days - switch to MS Exchange now.

Otherwise, get to know linux (MS is pass'e anyway), read this forums and scalix wiki. The learning curve for scalix is pretty steep even for linux guru, so don't be alarmed.

And, ask about specific issues rather than open end question.

Good luck!

And, ask about specific issues rather than open end question.
In fact, refrain from posting questions before searching the forum first. In all likelihood the question has already been answered in 95% of the cases. In general people are very helpful here, and you'll make a lot of friends if you don't come across as lazy.

Willie,

don't worry too much, nobody can know everything.
We allow 10 questions without consulting previous posts, then you get flamed :-)))

Play it by ear...if you have the time, best to look at previous posts...if you are getting pressured, ask the question. I am in the same TZ as you, and I tend to glance thru the board most days, and try to answer if I know.
