High network load with dirsync

Postby bguerreiro » Thu Oct 04, 2007 7:48 am

Hi all.
I've just established a 4-server environment, but now i've noticed that dirsync messages of around 1.4 MB are saturating my wan links every 2 or 3 minutes.

Is this normal?

Can i increase the interval between syncs?
i've issued ommodds -i n -P 0 and ommodds -n 1 -A 15

Any ideas?
BRGDS.

Did you restart dirsync after changing the settings?

I would first check in the fatal log and event log to see if there are any errors.
I would also increase the reporting level in dirsync (ommodds with the "-v" option) and check the error notif user mailbox to see what is happening.

Also check the update timer on the importing server, and also the dirchlog to see if that is getting updated.

It could potentially be an issue with the ~ds/ directories/files.
"omsearch -e ds-sync-data=3 -m ds-index"will get the ds/loc* directory number
"omsearch -e s=+dir* -m ds-index" will get the ~ds/loc*/rem*.ts filename.
That filename should contain the last successful dirsync time in yymmddhmmss format.

Also, remember that the messages will, as default, be sent in 1MB lumps (probably why you see the 1.4MB messages). Depending on how large your directory is, that could take a few messages.

When you start the dirsync, have a look in ~ds/loc* directories for a *.sr file...that should be the size of file being transmitted in 1MB chunks for the initial dirsync, and you will see a corresponding *.cr file vbeing built on the importing server.
