POP3 - Brute Force Attack?

Guys/Gals,
With the web interface, Scalix can lock out a user if they try their password too many times - which is a great feature.
Does this also apply to the user's POP account? eg if an incorrect username/password is entered then the account is locked as well?
Cheers,
KonMan.
