outgoing messages over existing mailserver

Hello.
I'm new in this community. Yesterday I set up Scalix on my Debian Server.
Everything works fine. I can send and receive emails in my intranet.
But, I can't send mails on a public email-address (f.e. gmx, yahoo, gmail..).
I think this is because my local domain name is not registred (no public dns entries). Am I right?
Now, I have an own registred domain, leased by an isp (www.hostpoint.ch), which offers an email-server...
Are there any possibilities to send all "public" emails over this server? something like a smtp relay from my local email-server the the public one?

It's a sendmail config issue - search the forum for 'smarthost' (I made a post fairly recently) or google it.
