PERM_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 13): 550 unrouteable address

Postby ryoojin83 » Sat Aug 11, 2007 11:58 am

I am totally clueless as to what is going on here.

I had my server up and running no problem. I could send, receive, reply.. blah blah. now when I try to email my sever from my gmail account i get this message

"""
PERM_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 13): 550 unrouteable address
"""

I can't find anyone with the same error, but I think it has to do with the fact they my server is inside my local network (192.168.1.xxx ip) and it is returning that IP instead of the domain's IP.

Setup:
- Fedora Core 5 Running as a Virtual Machine
- I have a domain setup with an A record pointing to my router IP, and am MX record pointing to my router ip. and my router is forwarding all scalix ports to my email server on a 192.168.1.xxx local address)

/etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
192.168.1.xxx <hostname>.<domain> <hostname>

like I said before, what is bothering me is that this all worked yesterday. now I get that error.

any ideas?

so I need to setup some sort of NS record?

EDIT: I can still send email just fine.

Have you tried to send emails from *other* ISP, such as yahoo, hotmail, etc?

We too had ours working fine, but one day emails from gmail just stopped working properly. We initially I suspected a change we did on our firewall could've been the source of the problem, but as it turned out it wasn't (we just stepped back). It most likely was a timimg coincidence. Sending emails from gmail remains a problem for us. Only 30-40% of emails from them reach us. We have not had any problems with any other ISPs or private companies.

We now suspect gmail has been systematically changing something at their side, such as replacing, upgrading or re-configuring their mail servers, and for the worst. I'd welcome any feedback other people may have regarding specifically email from gmail.
