BUG: Scalix tabs dont appear in ADUC

Postby cartel » Mon Aug 06, 2007 10:45 pm

Hi there

Previously I had installed the Scalix active directory extensions on one of my domain controllers in the course of the evaluation process. I uninstalled these later from Add/remove programs.

Now that we have purchased our Scalix license and are attempting to move into production, I have reinstalled the extensions using the latest versions of the msi packages. Now, the Scalix tabs do not appear in ADUC, except for te test users I used the first time around where only the "Scalix General" tab appears.

regsvr32 -i ScalixADPages.dll yields the following error:

DllRegisterServer in ScalixADPages.dll failed.
Return code was: 0x80029c4a

The version metadata for this DLL is 11.1.0.45.

I cannot find any bugs pertinent to 0x80029c4a but I did find another forum post at www.scalix.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2 ... aac667ba88 so I presume there was some sidechannel hotfix delivered that solved the issue.

I have also tried installing the extensions on a second win2k3 server, and had the same issue.

Would appreciate any response as this is a bit of a showstopper for us.

Thanks

Tom

Some additional information:

This version of the AD extensions was installed from the scalix-11.1.0-GA-enterprise-redhat tarball and the version string under software\scalix_active_directory_extensions is 11.1.0.20070606-1448.

I have also tried installing adminpak.msi on an XP workstation and installing the AD GUI extensions MSI there. Again, regsvr32 ScalixADPages.dll still yeilds 0x80029c4a.

Hi Cartel,

Couple of quick questions:

1) What language/regional settings are configured on the servers your're using?

2) Can you confirm that the schema extensions are installed and active? Please use adsi or an ldapbrowser (jxplore, or lbe for example) to check that.

3) Are you seeing anything in eventvwr when you install either the schema or mmc extensions? What is the output of the command if you try to reinstall the schema extensions?

4) that was my post in thread 2901 that you saw and linked below; there was no hotfix delivered as the poster never got back to me.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply.

1. Language is English (New Zealand), locale is New Zealand.

2. The scalix subtree is visible in the ADSI editor.

3. ScalixForestPrep.exe reports "Your directory is up to date". There is nothing in the event viewer that is Scalix related.

Hope this helps

Tom

Hi Tom - no worries

Would it be possible for you to try the same on an equivalently installed machine in the English/US locale?

I'd like to at least isolate whether the issue has to do with the locale or not as a first step. If we can confirm that the issue does have to do with the locale that'd be a big step toward resolving it.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,

I changed the locale to United States, input language to English (United States), no effect.

Thanks

if it's worth mentioning, the AD is in windows 2000 mixed mode. I havent had an opportunity to raise it to native yet. Also we currently have Exchange and are desperate to move off it.

Hi Cartel,

Can you attempt to install the MMC Snap-In on a vanilla XP box?

I installed fresh W2K3 and XP to test this out on and it worked fine. I can't imagine a mixed-mode AD causing problems, but it's hard to know.

Hi Chris,

I assume the MMC snap-in is the same as the AD Gui Extensions. As i mentioned in my post on Aug 7, I already tried this with the same result.. are you talking about something else?

Thanks

Tom

It should be worth noting that this AD is not 'fresh', it is a production system that has been in operation for 2-3 years. And as noted, the ADUC extensions used to work. I last tested them evaluating 11.0.5.

This morning I tried deleting the Scalix attributes via te ADSI editor and reinstalling them with forestprep. This succeeded but regsvr32 -i ScalixADPages.dll still failed with the same error code.

Are you certain that you're looking in the right place for the extensions?? Do you have an action available to create scalix mailbox for your users?

Suppose I should post a follow up. I went into deep hack mode and started tearing out attributes from te active directory using ldap and running the reinstall of the extensions. I'm not sure exactly what fixed it, and regsvr32 still fails, but at least the create mailbox option is showing up now. Kids dont try this at home, use a copy of the ad rather than your live system to test.
