I suspect the lack of response thus far is due to the fact that the forum & web are littered with howtos on this topic - showing that you'd done some homework & made some effort to do it yourself would've helped your cause too.

Ok, lecture mode off:

Backup your /etc/mail directory.

Put a line like this in your sendmail.mc:

Code: Select all

define(`SMART_HOST',`smtp.your.isp')dnl

Make sure you get the backticks & single quotes right.

Add this to your /etc/mail/access file:

Code: Select all

AuthInfo:smtp.your.isp  "U:foo" "P:bar" "M:DIGEST-MD5 PLAIN LOGIN"

cd into /etc/mail & if you're using RH/fedora then simply run 'make' to rebuild all your config files. Otherwise do:

Code: Select all

m4 sendmail.mc > sendmail.cf
makemap hash access.db < access

Should be it.

Edit: Restart sendmail. No need to touch Scalix.

This sort of thing is exactly why I'm not a fan of SuSE - they seem to be non-standard, or at least less standard than average when it comes to manual config.

Anyway, fire up YaST2 & I'm sure you'll be able to config the smarthost there... I don't have have a SuSE system around right now so I can't walk you through it.
