Hi
I have a user with an Outlook Connector. After Outlook crashed and was killed, a public folder was gone. omlistbbs doesn't show it either.
I have a backup of /var/opt/scalix/*, but after I installed that on a testserver, the folder is still not there ;-(
Do I have to create the folder again or is there a way to fix the bbslist? Any help is appreciated
Versions:
OS: OpenSuSE 10.1
scalix-res-11.0.1.22-1
scalix-server-11.0.1.11-1.suse101
scalix-postgres-11.0.1.22-1
scalix-sac-11.0.1.22-1
scalix-tomcat-connector-11.0.0.144-1.suse101
scalix-platform-11.0.1.22-1
scalix-sis-11.0.1.22-1
scalix-tomcat-5.5.16-152
scalix-mobile-11.0.1.22-1
scalix-swa-11.0.1.22-1
the user uses the 11.0.4 outlook connector
Folder is still deleted :-(

Can anyone help me with the question?
If it was not clear enough, I can always try to explain it again - I hope...

You can add public folders using the "omaddbb" command on the server.

How do you actually use the "Public Folders" in outook? Second time I ask.

What do you mean by "use"? The contents in Outlook show up on all client PC's connected to the same machine, and you can apply some access control to it, so only certain people can edit or view.
It's often used as a shared point to put information for groups of people (like a shared company address book).

Ok but the actual folder called "Shared Folders" HOW do you use it. When I share mailboxes contacts, etc it creates a new "Mailbox - Doe, John B." folder

I think you're referring to Delegation.
In Outlook 2003 (if you are using that), switch to Tree view. Under your mailbox is a "Public Folders", where you can create subfolders. Those subfolders (and their contents) should be visible to all Outlook users. Just be warned, by default only an administrator (marked in SAC as Full Administrator) can create folders directly under the Public Folders root. You can however control who creates folders beneath that by setting the permissions (right-click and Properties).
Deleted Folder....

That's not quite what I was looking for. Is there a way to restore the contents of the folder? From what I was told by the user, Outlook 2K crashed and afterwards, the folder was simply gone.
Creating the folder and setting up the permissions is no big problem.
If I create a new folder, it is empty, but I want the content back if that is possible.

Mmmm ... not an easy one to solve. I think the best option is to recover a server backup on another machine, get Scalix running, then use PST's or sxmboxexp to transfer the contents of the Public Folder.
It may be possible to reconstitute it using the orphans lying around the mailstore (if you didn't run omscan yet), but for that I would suggest contacting Scalix support. Not sure if this will even be possible for you, though.

Thanks for the answer. In the meantime, I manually created the folder again and put the email-adress back on top of it. Restoring the mailstore from the backup in /var/opt/scalix/ didn't bring back the contents, but the client was fine with the current contents from the email-account.
I have no idea why the backup didn't bring back the old status, so my guess is that there is something besides /var/opt/scalix/* to save. I probably overlooked something in the documentation (admin / maintenance pdfs).
Any help what I have to backup beside /var/opt/scalix/* ?

We have just started using "Public Folders" with Outlook. It's a nice feature to have, but I'm starting to get very worried about the backups. I make daily backups of my email server ( it's in a VM ). But I am not sure how I would restore a public folder from an old backup. I suppose I could start the VM and export the public folder as a PST.
I think a good idea would be to have scalix make the folder hidden, but not really deleted. Then have the admin have the ability to restore a folder for a certian amount of time, or have the admin be able to *really* delete the folder.
I guess I don't have a point, except that I'm worried about the same problem.

All the mailstore data is in /var/opt/scalix/??/s, the rest are automatically/manually generated from the mailstore or are executables / config files.
If files are still missing it could indicate a permissions problem (fixed with omcheck) or maybe the contents was deleted before / between backups?
