Export.Hold Folder

I recently ran out of disk spcae completely on my Scalix server (don't ask!) and of course then couldn't get in to the admin console or any of our Outlook clients to free up some disk space.

I subsequently found this folder had 12GB of what seemed like unwanted files in it. I reported the problem to Scalix but frnakly couldn't spare any more time - our organisation had been without emails since 5pm the previous night and it was now approaching lunchtime.

I deleted the files and restarted Scalix server.

This freed up more than enough space and everythng is running sweet as a nut.

What I can't find is what this folder is supposed to contain.

I suspect it is a 'black hole' in that it is used to 'temporarily' store lost emails etc.

Can anyone shine some light on this for me?

Hi,

The "xport.hold" directory is usually used to store incoming messages from another Scalix server when the service router is down. This means you may have potentially deleted some messages destined for this Scalix server before they get delivered.

Danny

Thanks Danny,

That sounds reasonable, BUT there was over 12GB of data in that folder, I know that we don't receive anything like that amount of messages overnight...

Maybe it hadn't been building up just over night...

Yeah, sounds more like that had been building for quite some time as (from memory) the total size of the mailstore is around 40gb - so 25% additional files being held over...!

I will definitely keep an eye on it!
