One week after server goes live - mailstore now over 7GB

Hi,

We deployed our server last Saturday, and I have the sxbackup script and other scripts giving me diagnostics. Everything going well, but I looked today at the message output, and found astonishingly that our /var/opt/scalix/instancename is now going over 7GB!!

Is this normal? I have just under 200 users, receiving quite a bit of mail, most of it gets poped out and deleted from the server at the moment, we have around 15 users going to MAPI, but have less than 1GB of mails in each MAPI account - limit of 1GB imposed.

Last week we sent out around 30k messages - slightly high volume than normal due to newsletter plus message to all users of a website - could this have anything to do with the size?

Thanks,
Andrew.

Hi Andrew!

I would request you to use the command sxdu to check the Message Store disk usage
see the man page for details of the options. I would suggest you to check the waste basket
size for users.

Andrew,

are you backing up the temporary areas (~instancename/temp and ~instancename/tmp)?
Those should be cleared out when running an omscan (it may be worth running an agressive omscan if you have been adding lots of users etc (omscan -Avfx)

Also, check the sizes of mailboxes from th eoutput of omscan to see if there are any huge mailboxes.

Hi,

The space seems to be taken up by the user's recovery folder - as they are deleting POP3 messages. What is the default settings for the recovery folder - how long does it store mails for by default?

Thanks.
Andrew.

Hi Andrew!

To change the default hold period on a system-wide basis in recovery folder, refer to the
details provided at page#134 of the Admin guide available at:
http://www.scalix.com/documents/Scalix_ ... 11.0.2.pdf

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
