Rules and Public Folders

I would like to ask if it is possible to apply rules to email being delivered to public folders. We currently have a public folder that gets mail, however we want to create subfolders and automatically file email based on subject line. Is this possible?

Anyone? Even a no would be helpful so I can set expectations for the users. I have not been able to find any documentation for this

I don't think this is possible as a public folder doesn't have a "user" attached to it. It has a directory entry but no user and rules work on users only.
