Strange IMAP transfer error

Running 11.0.2.17 on Debian Etch.
Transferring just a few messages from an Exchange 2003 server publc folder store, into the public folders in Scalix using Thunderbird 1.5 IMAP.
All works well, except when I get a message that was created on a Mac. All of the messages I have like this have large attachments, some up to 7Mb. Thunderbird reports an error as:
The Mail Server Responded: Cannot append that message.
Looking in the IMAP daemon log, here's what I get (names obscured to protect the guilty):
This seems to be happening only with stuff created on a Mac, that has an attachment. Here's the relevant parts of the source for the above message:
Anyone got an idea?
