Scalix Server scaling

Hello mates,

As we're going to buy Scalix for 100 users to begin with, I need to get a fresh new server for it.

Can you advise me about a config for my server so that it will support 100 users easily ? What's the primary concern apart from disk space ? Memory, CPU ? Will 2GB Memory be short or too much in your opinion ?

Thanks for your help

Hello

The spec depends a little on how you intend your users to access the server.

Scalix uses a file system based message store, so fast disk IO is always good.

If you users are going to be using the Web based access method, then you need to support a memory & CPU hungry tomcat java server aswell. Although you could run this on other dedicated machine(s) if you wanted to.

If your users are going to be using purely Outlook, then I think you can get away with a less high spec in terms of memory and CPU.

In any case a contemporary server with a RAID controller and 2GB of memory should be fine for 100+ users.

Hi Alexys!

I think you should have a look at the Supported Environments section of the Scalix 11.0.3
release notes at:
http://downloads.scalix.com/.community/ ... #supported
this would give you an idea about the OSs that are supported, there are a few alerts to look
for. :)

Also the Scalix Installation Guide is available at:
http://www.scalix.com/documents/Scalix_ ... 11.0.1.pdf
that details the minimum system requirements, from page #28.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Subir

Hi and thanks for this complete reply, I understand what you mean and will adapt my specs for this.

Subir, thanks too, I read that minimal reqs before but I didn't find it very handful because I don't want minimal, but optimal and time resisting specs ;)

Cheers mates
