Mirror a Scalix server configuration and data

Postby dwerthmu » Mon Apr 23, 2007 4:23 pm

We're in the process of evaluating Scalix as a exchange 5.5 replacement.

One our of goals for a new email setup is the ability to have a mirror site, a co-location server with a mirror/ insync copy of our onsite server. It would be OK if the remote site was a few hours out of sync if needed. The idea being this could host our DR email.

Its seems that the redhat cluster is really designed to support host failover since they tend to use a shared message store.

thanks

yes you can do what you want with less.

If you use LVM snapshot to back up you production sever then you can rsync the snapshot to a DR server. Since snapshot can be done without interruption to the users you can do that as often as feel to.

The DR machine can be installed over the top of the rsynced /var/opt/scalix/ folder and will be functional.

There are a few small things to learn before you can be successfull at this but all in all it is a very low cost approach to DR and HA servers

Fantastic- I'm not all that familiar with LVM snapshots yet, but this gives me a great place to start. Thanks for your input.

A "newbie" question. I know what HA is, high availability. What does DR stand for?

Thanks

DR in the context of my question is Disaster Recovery
