email delivery errors - scalix 11

Postby Imran.Patel » Mon Apr 02, 2007 7:25 am

Hi - when sending an email from our second scalix server we receive the following error: 550 5.1.2 <email address>... host unknown (name server: email domain.co.uk: no data known)

sending to other email domains is fine but it 's just one paricular one. I believe it's a setup issue rather than scalix.

any help appreciated.

Thank
Imran

Hi Imran,

when sending an email from our second scalix server

Are these two servers part of same Scalix Server (Multi-Server Installation), or they are
different servers? If they are part of same server, do you have dirsync between these two.

Thanks,
Subir

there's two different server on different networks but the hostname are quite similiar. one's called scalix.MMMM.co.uk and the other is scalix2.MMMM.co.uk

Hi!

Can you ping one server to another and vice-versa, can you telnet between server at port
25? When you say on two networks, that means different hosts, right?

Thanks,
Subir

i can ping the hostname and IP address from the scalix2 server fine. This is the particular email server that won't send email to one particular domain in the scalix server.

The scalix server can ping the IP address but returns with host unknown when trying to ping the scalix2 name.

both servers hostname ends in .MMMM.co.uk and this is the part of the address that we are having trouble with. I wonder whether it sees it as being internal?

Hi Imran,

This is more of an internal network related issue, just make sure that the forward and
reverse lookup works, check if the /etc/resolv.conf has the entry for your nameserver,
and also check if the /etc/hosts file has correct entries.

Look what I find while searching for "unknown host":

problem has been resolved. there was no smarthost entry.

sendmail.cf file was edited to send emails via our exim box.

DSesmtp:[xx.xx.xx.xx]
