Services on Scalix Box

Postby dougp23 » Thu Mar 29, 2007 8:52 am

Just a couple questions:

What services can I safely disable on my linux box and still have scalix/clamd/spamassassin run along happily? Or what services are mandatory to have running? I see CUPS running, I can't imagine Scalix needs that (could have been enabled during the RH install)

Is there a default "catch-all" mailbox, where mail gets delivered to if someone has mis-addressed it??

Not sure about the first (but I agree, CUPS is probably not needed) but I can take the second.

A catch-all address can be configured in the smtpd config file at /var/opt/scalix/XX/s/sys/smtpd.cfg by inserting:

Code: Select all

CATCH @example.com catchalladdress@example.com

That redirects mail that doesn't match a user but matches the domain over to your catch-all address.
When you do that you have to restart Scalix smtpd by using:

Code: Select all

omoff -d0 -w smtpd
omon smtpd

Works for me anyway.

Thanks. I generally hate catchall boxes, they just get all sorts of spam.

But I always find legitimate messages in there, so for now, I will enable it.

The services you need running depend on the machine of course.

Mainly you will need all the scalix ones, sendmail, ldapmapper, network, syslog, httpd/apache and crond.

Others would depend on what you have the machine doing. (ie. mdmonitor if you have a software raid, etc.)

You should be able to do a search on google for the services that are available in the OS and then determine which ones you need.
