Can Send, But Can't receive

Just set up a new Scalix Server using the latest GA.

It's in the DMZ, so not in front of the firewall. We can send emails just fine.
But we set up Internet Email in Outlook, and we can't receive the emails. (I have also tried a simple POP setup in Thunderbird, and it's the same thing. It says connecting to the server, and it stays doing that for awhile (15 seconds), then comes back with no email). Yet if I login to Webmail, there the messages are!!!

Any ideas?

How are you trying to connect to the server? POP, IMAP, or MAPI?

POP. Port 110.

Now, me, being the user, I AM in front of the firewall. Is that a problem?? (I don't think so, because our current email hoster is in Atlanta, and we use POP to get our emails, and my firewall has no 110 rule that I can see.)

Ok, so what's happening is that your desktop is trying to make a connection to your server on port 110, and your firewall is dropping it. The other provider you're talking about has opened that port so that connections can be made into their server.

If you go to your firewall, you should be able to allow port 110 connections inbound to the Scalix server. While in that config setup, I would recommend also verifyng that port 25 is also open.

so I am confused....

I am on a LAN. To get outside the LAN, I go thru a firewall.
But my firewall and email server are plugged into a hub, the firewall (let's say) is 55.66.77.88 and the email server is 55.66.77.89. Since they are both plugged into the hub I can ping the Ip of the mailserver, as well as its FQDN.

I have added inbound access to port 110 to the mailserver, and inbound port 25 on the mailserver (I added outbound too, just in case).

Still no go.

I am digging through the docs right now, but what ports do I need open on the Scalix box? (I have the firewall enabled on the Scalix server)

Argh! Someone slap me!

I didn't have Ports 110 and 143 open on the Red Hat box, because it runs a firewall too. All set now.

You'll need ports 80 and 25 open as well. If you're going to be using the MAPI connector for any of your clients, also open 5729.
