Dear Scalix-Team,

i searched this forum a long time. But i didn't find anything about sending emails in the name of a group. Perhaps i used the wrong keywords.

In detail:

The user fred@domain.de should have the rights to send emails as webmaster. I created a group named "webmaster". The user fred is member of this group so he receive mails adressed to webmaster@domain.de.

However, how can i give him the rights to send mails as Webmaster?

Hi!

Login SAC, check the user properties for fred, and make him 'Manager' of group 'webmaster'. You must have set the Internet address of webmaster to webmaster@domain.de.

I did exactly what you described. I made fred to the manager of group webmaster and gave that group the adress webmaster@domain.de.

If i use Outlook to send an email as webmaster (logged in as fred) then i get the msg

"The Mailserver could not confirm that you are justified to send messages in the name of the indicated user."

And if type into "FROM" webmaster@domain.de then the msg is:

"You do not have an authorization to send messages in the name of the indicated user. "

I havn't tried it from SWA so far.

You cannot at this time send on behalf of a group. You can only send as a user, and then only if you have the proper delegate permissions. The outgoing mail will use the first email address defined for that user.

There have been quite a few people asking for more options here, but there are limits to what Scalix can do within Outlook.

thanks for your explanation, but - It is a little strange. On one side Scalix support says that it functions and on the other side you say that it does not function. Whom should I believe now?

And what is now the common way to create a webmaster-account?

It seems to be as i have to create a user named Webmaster an redirect all incoming msg to several users who are responsable for Webmaster Requests an give them the permissons to send on behalf.

Is that right?

This is a limitation of Outlook in MAPI mode. If you connect via POP, or IMAP you can define a sending address as you are requesting.

This is a commonly requested enhancement, and it's in bugzilla already.

Oddly enough, I can change the setting in Evolution (using the Scalic Connector for Evolution), and this works just fine.

However, when I show the From field in SWA, and add the from address that I want to use, I get the error msg "You do not seem to have permission to send as this user". I am a member and manager of the group that I am trying to send as. I thought that SWA was straight IMAP. Shouldn't this work?

Hi,

What we done in this case was to create a mailbox for the relevant customer services, enquiries etc. People replied to the messages, and they were send as Enquiries/Customer services etc. To get rid of the Sender: header, you just untick the option in SAC.

People also liked this because the mailboxes were separate from their own personal message area.

It does use a premium license for this, though, unfortunately.
