The very weird thing is that I can send to my wife's email address that she can check from home, but is connected to her MS Exchange Server at her company through VPN. I'm puzzled! Does it have something to do with the fact she's on my local network? It shouldn't matter because her computer is connected via VPN using our local network as a transport.

Its possibly a Sendmail config issue. In the environment I have, I need to forward the emails off to a smart host to get them to send outside the local domain.

If you use the mailertable, add in an entry like:

. smtp:mail.isp.com

then rebuild the map (SuSE has a makefile for this... I assume Fedora has something
similar)

Future plans (send/receive on scalix server)

Postby BMillikan » Mon Oct 10, 2005 7:28 am

If I want Sendmail to handle all outgoing mail, I suppose a true DNS server has to be setup? I'm planning on getting two T1s installed and don't plan on using an ISP pop or smtp server. I'd like to host it all on my box.

Well, I would assume that proper DNS config is essential for running a mail server...

And I was referring to using the ISP as a relay. This has the advantage of not
filling up your mail queue with bounce messages to spammers that will never be
delivered, etc. Means it fills up your ISP's queue instead. ;-)

'tis worth a try to see if it works, though. Might be a simple solution to your problem.
