Evaluation period for this time-limited product has expired

Postby yuceli » Mon Feb 26, 2007 12:40 pm

Hello all,

We have a small business edition (50 premium users) of Scalix 11 running on test server (planned to be live next week) on SLES 10 server. One of my collegue has played with the permissions on /var/opt/scalix and subfolders and now when we try to login, Scalix gives the message on the subject line. I've searched the forum pages and found a similar case ( viewtopic.php?t=6208&highlight=evaluation+period ). We applied the suggested actions (omcheck -i -s >fix_perms.sh , and then : bash ./fix_perms.sh). Still get the same error. We also did a "omcheck -s -d" afterwards, but couldn't get rid of the problem. What do you suggest? We have created all the users and don't want to create them again (manual job, no LDAP or Exchange server).

Best regards...

License Monitor Daemon

Postby yuceli » Mon Feb 26, 2007 12:52 pm

I've just noticed that some of the daemons are not started, including "License Monitor Daemon". Error log indicates "permission denied" errors. The question is, how can we restore the original permissions without a complete reinstall?
Kind regards,

omcheck -s -d > /tmp/permcheck
bash /tmp/permcheck

The first line will create a script that till check & correct your permissions, the second line will execute the script, going through and correcting them.

Thanks Kev. I did run as you suggested. It fixed "/var/opt/scalix/ml/s/Copyright/OM-LDAP" with success message. I restarted Scalix, but when I try again to enter web mail page, it gives the same error : The evaluation period for this time-limited product has expired... But now all the services running, including "License Monitor Daemon"!!!
Kind regards,

I am receiving this error with one user on a small network (so far) after a name change (she got married). Other premium users work OK, including my own, and I can log in as sxadmin (a limited account).

I have restarted tomcat several times, and have been able to log in as other users, with both Premium and limited accounts (whe's a premium user).

omshou shows her 'new' last name, and her old last name is not showing anywhere (their email address rule is g@domain.com).
Her 'new' last name also shows up in the Outlook addressbook for the other users on the system.

Ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Rubin

Is it the same error, or slightly different.

If I was to guess, I'd guess that the name changed, but the AuthID didn't. So if you go into SAC, check to see that the authID is what she is using to sign in with.

That was the first thing I checked... the authid is her fist name only. And it's exactly the same error: "The evaluation period for this time-limited product has expired. Please contact support@scalix.com to upgrade."

None of the other users are experiencing this, and I'm begining to wonder if it has anything to do with the name change at all.

Ok, reply to my own posts... that was too stupid for words.

I'd modified most of the users:

Code: Select all

ommodu -n "Username" --swa N

...to prevent employee abuse on the client's request, and had forgotten that I'd done that a year and some ago. Duh, and apologies for wasting your time.

However, an error like "Dear %USER%, your account has been disallowed access to the webmail system. If you feel this is in error, please contact your administrator" would be MUCH more helpful :)

Trust me, I make those same errors. When you see LOTS of systems, it's easy to forget some strange detail about one. No Prob, glad it was an easy fix (eventually).

i am experiencing this same issue and have attempted all of these steps unsuccessfully. in my case, i tried to upgrade from 11.0.4 to 11.1 and i had a problem with my license file. i ended up uninstalling 11.1 completely, and went back to 11.0.4. my premium users can access their mailbox through outlook only. they get the above error when attempting to login via swa or any other imap client(mobile phone) the imap from my phone looks like it's checking for mail, but never retrieves any. the standard users can login through webmail without a problem. i have reloaded the sxliscense as well as the omcheck, omtidy, stop and start tomcat, omshut/omrc all without any positive results. the omcheck did fix a bunch of permission issues but still no luck. are there any other ideas to get this going again?

I have similar, if no exactly the same problems, as described in this thread.
But it seems to only affect some of the users, among them myself (which is immensely frustrating, to say the least).

I get the "The evaluation period for this time-limited product has expired.." message when trying to log in, and restarting the scalix-tomcat service has no apparent effect.

I followed the advice provided by kanderson, and created the permcheck script, but I am hesitant running it after actually reading the suggested changes therein.
Changing filepermissions are one thing, and changing ownership over user mailstores is another.

Example:
# ---------------------------------------------------------
#
#Now checking Mailstore files OM-USERGFILES
#
# Filename: /var/opt/scalix/sx/s/user/g000035/000003v.1 ( Scalix OM-USERGFILES )
# Mode is 664 (-rw-rw-r--) should be 660 (-rw-rw----)
chmod 660 /var/opt/scalix/sx/s/user/g000035/000003v.1
# Uid is 0 (root) should be 100 (scalix)
chown scalix /var/opt/scalix/sx/s/user/g000035/000003v.1
# Filename: /var/opt/scalix/sx/s/user/g000035/imap-cache/00010a08e3266b2c ( Scal
ix OM-USERGFILES )
# Uid is 64875 (UNKNOWN) should be 100 (scalix)
chown scalix /var/opt/scalix/sx/s/user/g000035/imap-cache/00010a08e3266b2c
# Filename: /var/opt/scalix/sx/s/user/g000035/imap-cache/00010a0010ccbf68 ( Scal
ix OM-USERGFILES )
# Uid is 64875 (UNKNOWN) should be 100 (scalix)
chown scalix /var/opt/scalix/sx/s/user/g000035/imap-cache/00010a0010ccbf68
# Filename: /var/opt/scalix/sx/s/user/g000035/imap-cache/0001100027ffe8aa ( Scal
ix OM-USERGFILES )
# Uid is 64875 (UNKNOWN) should be 100 (scalix)
chown scalix /var/opt/scalix/sx/s/user/g000035/imap-cache/0001100027ffe8aa
... And so on.

This feels a bit nervy, when doing it on a live system with nearly a hundred mailboxes, when you have absolutely no idea of how to rollback or otherwise being able to fix any problems resulting from these automated actions.

What does this script do, and what can I do if this goes awry?

Thanks!
