Server OS updates

Hi there,

I'm using Scalix Community 11.0.1 on RHEL4.0 Update 2 server. Redhat regularly posts updates for their OS. They have posted Update 3 and Update 4 for RHEL 4.0 so far. Is there any recommendation for in-place upgrade of the OS to the latest OS Update version with Scalix server running on it? I know that I have to take care of the sendmail.mc.rpmnew file but besides that is there anything else which needs to be considered and is it recommended to patch the OS with Scalix server running on it or it's better to do Scalix backup and fresh OS install with the latest update version then restore Scalix from the backup. Anyone who has experience with this, please advice.

Hi,
I am running several RHEL3/4 based Scalix boxes with RHN subscriptions. up2date has never caused any problems beside the sendmail things you mentioned.
I would not expect that an upgrade within the same product (RHEL4 Un to RHEL4 Un+x) will cause a problem.
Anyway, a full backup before the upgrade would be a good idea.

HTH,
