shout out to scalix partners

Postby kristianward » Thu Feb 22, 2007 12:45 pm

Hey fellow partners,

i was wondering if any of you have started a seperate discussion board that we all can go to and discuss our scalix businesses?

if not im looking to do so.

i think it would be a great opportunity for us to share and learn from eachother.

What you think?

Hi Kristian

Count me in.

I think it' being discussed right now. There used to be one on the partner portal, IIRC, but a forum here would work better from my perspective too.

Hello Scalix Partners,

We are evaluating a variety of ways and methods for improving communications with our Partners. One goal is to continue to improve the Partner Portal, and have that be your primary source for information. We realize that many of you also spend time on a daily basis on the Community Forum, (or receive regular digest emails) so would find this a more natural and convenent for engaging in dialog with your fellow Partners (for this to be of value, we suspect you would need it to be private?). However we will need to weigh that against our desire to not dilute the efforts of improving and expanding the usefulness of the Partner Portal.

We would welcome further input on this topic. Please either continue to voice your opinion on this thread. Or feel free to contact your Scalix representative with a personal email on this topic.

Thanks,

Glenn

I am mostly a technical resource, and doesn't do a lot of sales per se, so my focus may be different from most others using the Partner Portal.

A discussion area where partners can network a bit and swap their own experiences would be nice. For example, if I am considering running a site with 2,000 Scalix users, what kind of server sizing has been found to work well in the field? What configurations should rather be avoided?

Also, it can act as a forum to place potential sales within the reach of a partner. As an example, I sell Scalix to the South African arm of an international company. I could then post a general message, letting a German partner work on selling Scalix to the parent company.

Speaking of which, I have sold Scalix EE (65 seats) to Elster Kent Metering (Pty) Ltd in South Africa, and they are happy with it. Anyone in Germany wanting to speak to the Elster Group (http://www.elster.com/en/)? I know they run Lotus Notes and they are fairly happy with it, but maybe we can convert the whole group. Of course, we have not discussed this with anyone from them, so I don't know how receptive they will be to this.

All of this can be handled and facilitated by Scalix personnel as well, but it may act as a way to take some pressure off of them, as they don't have to handle the liaison between partners.

Sorry for jumping in here as not beeing a scalix partner, however beeing an it consultant an having customers running Notes. As long as they only do messaging with their Notes, this should be possible, but many customers excessively develop database and workflow applications on Notes which makes them more and more dependend on that infrastructure.
Also I don't know (still a newbie to Scalix) how well signing and encryption of mail is supported as this cusomers ask for recently.

Regards,
grubi.

hello from austria,

i would very appreciate a closed area for partners for technical stuff.
sales is good to have but from my point of view technical part is really the more important.

i'm sure that such an area would be widely used by partners - if they have time for that.
there is a lot of information i could share to a closed group. just thinking about support cases which are not viewable by partners. could be a way to passover some hints.

anyway. hope to see something tech-partner in future.

I'd agree with the general consensus here. 99% of what I do is based on Tech Support. Even from a Sales standpoint, the biggest benefit (hands down) is the evaluation guide, which is technical. It's good for people to look at various aspects to compare Scalix against Zimbra or whatever, but it's better as a reference guide for new users so that they can remember the exact steps to set up delegation or something similar. I can't remember the portal address, so I just post the guide on our mail server for everyone to hand out or use.

Otherwise, I never use the portal. I'd vote that all of the brochures and stuff should just be public on the WIKI anyway. Linux was sold from the bottom up, Scalix should encourage that too. The more people who can lay their hands on the docs/brochures/marketing materials, the better.

Hello Scalix Partners,

Thank you for your input on this topic. Based on your feedback, we will set up a closed area on the Forum, which will be available to official Scalix Partners to hold discussions as suggested on this thread.

Please stay tuned for further details.

Cheers,

Glenn
