IMAP Internal Error after upgrade to 11.0.1

Postby chrisv » Wed Feb 21, 2007 2:20 am

We recently upgraded one of our clients from 10 to 11.0.1. The outlook connector works fine, but when you login via IMAP you get the following message:
01 NO LOGIN failed, internal error

Due to IMAP not working SWA doesn't work either and the following gets logged to the fatal log.

ERROR IMAP Server Da(IMAP Server Pr) 02.21.07 08:05:27
[OM 24070] Debug message for Lab use :
imapual_openActionFile: Could not open action file: No such file or directory
User Name: Chris Visser / mailnode, jhb/CN=Chris Visser

ERROR IMAP Server Da(IMAP Server Pr) 02.21.07 08:05:27
[OM 24070] Debug message for Lab use :
imapual_isResyncError: Could not open action file.
User Name: Chris Visser / mailnode, jhb/CN=Chris Visser

We ran sxmkindex, omtidyu and omscan. All of them completed successfully and/or didn't report any errors.
We ran an omcheck and checked both the installation and data directories.

Any ideas how we can resolve this?

I'm not sure what's going on here, but the error message comes from folder-sync not working as expected. It's as though you've turned it off and that's bad news for the IMAP server.

You're not short of disk space somewhere are you? (Just clutching at straws here, I'm sure you'd have noticed.)

Does this affect just this one user or is it all the users on the system?

Does the user have an imap-cache directory? (Run "omshowu -n <user> -f" to find the user folder, the imap-cache directory is in the same directory as that file. For me, for example, the user folder is "~/user/g000036/00000v8:1" and my so my imap-cache directory is "~/user/g000036/imap-cache", that is "/var/opt/scalix/??/s/user/g000036/imap-cache".)

It's safe to remove this directory and everything in it, but make sure the user is logged out first and any IMAP processes belonging to him are really dead. We have occasionally seen problems, though not this one, caused by the imap cache getting out of sync.

Disk space is fine.

It affects all users on the system.

We deleted and recreated the temp directory.
We also deleted the imap-cache directory for our test users on the system.

We have even rebooted the server after doing the above.

Anything else we can try?

Can you check the permissions on the ~/temp and ~/tmp directories? They both be owner and group scalix and modes 770 and 777 respectively.

I guess the next step is to turn on some tracing so we can see what's going on. If you put "IMAP_LOGLEVEL=3" in ~/sys/general.cfg and restart the IMAP server then you should get some files in ~/tmp. The imap file will include any unexpected error messages from the UAL (see man in.imap41d) there should also be a UAL trace file -- we're interested in the GETSYNC calls in that file -- are they reprting an error?

We have also found that if you try to login again during the same IMAP session, you can connect to the server.

Unfortunately this doesn't work for SWA

Just to close this off. The IMAP log files indicated that folder sync had been turned off and this, in turn, was due to ~/sys/general.cfg containing a line like "OFS_ENABLED=FALSE".

Don't do that :-)
