help: server down

Hi all,

in an attempt to correct a problem with mail from my server being identified as spam I edited my /etc/hosts file

that worked, but broke webmail (it could not connect to tomcat apparently)

when I restored my /etc/hosts the server now doesn't start...

webmail and sac load, but I get a mail server down message when logging into the web client, and I get an invalid username/pw when trying to connect to sac.

I suspect I have a lock file somewhere preventing a service to start. Where should I look.

thanks,

Jason

My apologies for the lack of information in my last post. I have to leave for California in 12 hours and my wife is at a wake leaving me with a dual-ear infection toddler...

I got the server back up and running by reconfiguring scalix components using the installer.

However, in order to get the webmail client running, I had to add:

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost

to my /etc/hosts file.

I don't believe this is the proper configuration and is causing mail my server is sending to get identified as spam. Without this, I get 500 errors from Apache.

What do I need to change to be able to remove this line?

Thanks,

Jason

I believe you need the localhost entry in /etc/hosts

Does your external IP resolve to a hostname? That is the most common cause of mail marked as spam. Your IP doesn't even have to resolve to your mail domain name, but it helps if it isn't a dsl/cable IP. My scalix server has no other entries in /etc/hosts other than the localhost line.
