Scalix AD Synchronization OMLDAPSYNC

Postby cholloway » Mon Feb 19, 2007 8:03 pm

Hello,

I am new to Scalix and I have just setup a server utilizing it. I also have an existing Exchange setup that I will be using for the forseeable future. I currently need to synchronize the company address books between the two. I have found some documentation on this in the Scalix Migration Guide but I am nervous about blindly following instructions without checking them out first. Also, I really have no interest in authenticating against AD or managing scalix from AD.

So my questions are:

1) Am I on the right track?should i use the directions found here: http://scalix11.ricis.com/docs/Scalix_M ... 0_Beta.pdf? It looks like the sections I may need are Fine Tuning LDAP, Creating the Synchronization Agreement, and Creating the Initial Directory Synchronization. Is this correct?

2) What effect will this have on each directory, IE how will Scalix users appear just like a normal contact in my Exchange adress book? What location in Active Directory are they stored?

3) In the section completing a synchronization agreement step 5 it says enter two 00's to specify you are synchronizing with Exchange 5.5. I am using 2003, does that make a difference?

I may have more questions but these are the ones that come to mind immediately.

Thanks in advance!!

Chris

Hi Chris,

as an extended answer to your question, I just wrote a howto - http://www.scalix.com/wiki/index.php?ti ... ntact-Sync - which should cover all the differences to the Migration Guide.

Regarding your quesions -

1 - yes, those should be the relevant sections
2a - Scalix users will appear as global contacs (with the little world symbol) in your exchange address book.
2b - I suggest creating an OU to hold the Scalix users, Where to enter the OU is covered in the howto.
3 - Use the instructions from the howto for the sync agreement,.

If you have questions, or if things aren't clear, please repost in this thread. I'll monitor that and try to get back to you as quickly as possible.

Cheers,

Chris

Ok, i have been trying to get this going all day. I finally got the bind to work, but now I get the following warning when I test the OMLDAPSYNC. I have tried everything I could think of for EX_BASE. The documentation says put the Container for your Global Adress List here. Can you give me a little insight on what needs to go here?

Ok, I have finally gotten it to work. For anyone else trying to accomplish this, the EX_BASE is where you put all of the OU's of where the users reside that you wish to extract from AD. The default EX_FILTER will not work though. After following the instructions on the wiki article to the T. What I finally did to get this to work was:

1)under EX_ATTR add in the following fields (just put them at the end of the list) msExchHideFromAddressLists, userAccountControl, also make sure you have changed rfc822mail to mail.

2)comment out the default filter and set one equal to this EX_FILTER=(&(&(userAccountControl=512)(mail=*)(!(msExchHideFromAddressLists=TRUE))))

This translates to enabled accounts with an email that are not hidden from the adress book. A/D actually has an attribute Global Adress book that should be able to be used in the filter but I was unsuccessful in getting it to work. This is the next best thing I could come up with.

3) make sure you have checked Hide From Adress book in every A/D account that you do not wish to show up in Scalix. Either that or move it to an OU outside the scope of your EX_BASE
