hi folks!

i am using scalix and like it a lot - but i need to send my mail via my old email-account that is provided by my isp - i have the problem that mail sent via the scalix server gets blocked by nearly every spamfilter the recipients of my mail use...thats extremely baaaaad.

so, could someone tell me how to make scalix use my smtp account of my isp? just the same way, i would send the mail via standalone-outlook, just that the scalix server does this...

please help me, the spamfilters really dont like mails from the domain my scalix server is on...

edit: i tried the search engine here, couldnt find anything...

why not just find out why all the emails you send from your scalix box are getting marked as spam and fix it?

My guess is that your scalix box is being used as an Open Relay, and if that's the case, you will want to fix it, otherwise you will be having performance problems as you will be handling way more mail than you intend to.

Searching the forums here should help you out in fixing such, but generally it's in the smtpd.cfg file that you need to make some customized rules.

After you get your problem fixed, you can contact the websites that have you listed as a spammer and get your IP address removed from their list.

I think that's an outside possibility (but it should be checked, especially if the OP made alterations to smtpd.cfg).

OTOH, if it's due to the IP range that the Scalix box is on or reverse DNS checks made by receiving MTAs failing then using a smarthost may be the only option.

this would be a good idea if I knew I had not to move to another domain sooner or later - but I am afraid, I will have to migrate scalix to another domain anyway - so I dont want that the recipients of my mail see the domain scalix is on right now - because if they reply later, it might happen that this domain does not even exist anymore. the probability that this might happen is very high actually. and the function "reply to" does not work all times because some people replied to my scalix domain already. I think they saved the sender adress in their contacts...

what I miss in the thread linked by Valerion is a possibility to enter the account data of my ISPs mailservice... as username (prophet@online.de), password (xyz), smtp-servername (smtp.1und1.de)
the fact is that I want scalix to send the mail not via its own account (prophet@ponk.mine.nu) but via my old email adress (prophet@online.de), just exactly like outlook did without scalix. this adress is still existing and active, so please dont think I want to try some alias trick or from: manipulation...

i guess scalix would need my isp-password to send mail via that account, i cannot find any place to enter that...
i also couldnt find that in the manuals...

what you are looking for is authentication of sendmail as a client. SO to say your local sendmail has to authenticate at the isps mta. Check sendmails site for authentication:

http://www.sendmail.org/~ca/email/auth.html

and search for: "Using sendmail as a client with AUTH" This will do the work you need...

Otherwise you should check if authentication works at the isp with

telnet <isp> 25
HELO mail
EHLO

after EHLO it should show you which autehtication mechanism are supported by the server. It should show you something like:

250-AUTH=LOGIN CRAM-MD5 PLAIN
250-AUTH LOGIN CRAM-MD5 PLAIN
250-STARTTLS
250-PIPELINING
250 8BITMIME

Then you will know which mechanism you have to implement at the scalix side...
