Synchronize Contacts Lists

Postby jferrara » Wed Feb 07, 2007 3:42 pm

My Police Department would like to centralize it's contact list into a public folder. No Problem.
They then want to move those contacts to the Captains personal contacts so that they are available to them on their blackberry's. We are current using Notify Link for the blackberrys.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to automate this?

Thanks
Joe

Hi Joe,

I'm also using Notify Link, and since they don't have a hosted solution for Scalix yet, I am assuming that you also are using an on-site NL Server.

Anyways, if you want to sync the Captains' (I think you have more than 1, right?) contacts to the Public Folders, I would think that NL would be the ones to handle that. In the admin console, I believe there are places to pick folders, but you may need to call them to see how you select a public folder from their console.

If you do figure this out, let me know as I have a feeling sooner or later, I may be in the same boat as you on this one.

Hi Mike,

I think I have found a way to do this. Notifylink uses your normal contact list but also has a Buisness & Personal underneath your normal one. With the Blackberry's you can view all three contact lists.

Right now I am working on the Public to Personal Contact Sync portion. I found a couple of shareware products that says they can do it but we will see. I am testing them now and will let you know.

Hi,

which scalix server you are running? With scalix 11 you got the possibility to use sxmboxexp and sxmboximp to extract the contacts from public folders into the captains specific contact folder. Just use the manpages for options. Otherwise check the api with scalix 11.

Cheers

Thanks Stefan, but I still on 9.4. I'm scheduled for next week to got to 10.0.5. But that may work when I get to v11.

Hi,

well as far as I know there are some issues with notifylink and scalix 11. So take care if and when you will go forward to sc 11. Search the forum for this issues.

If you use Notifylink it is very simple to have a central contact list available on a handheld device. In our case we are using blackberrys and treos.

First we created a Folder in Public Folders for the Police Master Addressbook. We gave access to the Addressbook for all the Captains.

From the Notify Admin, goto "User Administration" and select the a user. Next Click on "User IT Policies", next click on "Contact Format" then click on "Choose Addressbooks".

You should see a list of Addressbooks the user has access to. Click on the ones you would like access to on your handheld.

Resync, and your goof to go......
