I have a user who for the first time logged on to his mail. He has about 32,000 messages in his mail box. SWA displays "Can't open folder [inbox], I tried to open it in Outlook and I get kicked out. How can I delete the messages in his inbox?

I am running verison 9.4.

Up until version 11.0.0 there was a limit of 32,000 messages in any one folder. One option is to upgrade to 11 and test again. There's still a limit, but much higher. Alternatively you can use omtidyu to delete some emails in the mailbox until it is below 32,000 and then try to log in.

I am scheduled next week to go to v10 and v11 the following week.

Just to verify the: omtidyu -u "user" -p "password" -T i -a 30 -d -k

This should remove those items.

Looks good to me. You will delete emails older than 30 days. If this was me I would remove the -k, so it ends up in the Waste Basket instead, in case there was something important in there.

That worked thanks.

Outlook works with no problem, but in SWA I am getting the following mime error:

ERROR: *** Scalix could not completely parse this message because it is invalid MIME *** java.io.IOException: No content

Is it a corrupt mailbox?

Usually a corrupt mail message... spam that has invalid characters for SWA.

This was fixed in Scalix 10.0.5, but since you're running 9.4 you'll still have this problem. What I've had to do is use outlook (which handles the invalid characters) to delete the problematic messages. Make sure to delete them from the trash too though, as the problem will be there as well if you leave them there.

I have deleted all the messages and emptied waste folder. But any new message get the same results. Is there a way to delete the inbox and reset it like through outlook or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Have you closed SWA and re-opened it?

If so, and you're still getting this error, try deleting the user account and remaking it. Make sure to re-add the user to the proper groups etc, and all the aliases etc. Should work as an entirely new user, but just happens to have the same address as the old user.

Hope he didn't have anything good in that mailbox if you just deleted it.....

Then again, if he didn't use it long enough to get 32,000 messages, he obviously didn't care much about what would be going in there in the first place! :)

That did it! I logged off and on and it was fine.

Thanks again
