increase lvm space

Postby heupink » Wed Jan 17, 2007 5:56 am

hello all,

I have /var on a seperate lvm mount, as recommended by scalix.

Now I want to increase the space on the scalix lvm volume.

Do I need to do anything special to scalix? Need to shutdown scalix first? Need to run any specific commands afterwards, or should scalix pickup the change automatically?

Regards,
mj

Theoretically resizing LVs & their fs are non-destructive, but I wouldn't chance it on a production system - take a full backup of Scalix first.

Reboot into single user mode & unmount /var/opt/scalix.

Resize the logical volume using lvresize.

Assuming you're using ext2 or ext3 resize the filesystem using resize2fs (if you don't specify a size it will expand to fill the LV).

Remount /var/opt/scalix, go to your default run level & you're done.

thanks very much for the suggestions.

Hope this weekend I'll get to do this!
