contact folder ceation with imap

Hi,
We have a small scalix installation with 8 Users and all of them need to share an address book.
I have created a public contact folder, where all contacts are stored and I have written a small script that synchronizes the public data with a personal contacts subfolder.
That works.
But during the initial import the contacts folder has to be created. I tried to create it using the Mail::IMAPClient Api from perl. But the folder that gets created is message folder and not a contact folder.
Is there a way to create a personal contacts folder either using a perl (or any other language) interface or a mailer programm (called from a script)?
Thanks
Jan
P.S. Thank you for making it possible to use a great product like scalix for a small non profit organization.
