i know i'm flooding the forums with questinos. sorry about that i'm trying to get a grip on some things.
Aliases. From my dealing with email you have a user with a mailbox. an Alias has a redirect to put that email sent to the alias into a users mailbox.
I have noticed that scalix doesn't have an alias option out in the open. I'm I to under stand that where i can add different emails to a "user" that those are the alias email addresses?
Ie User John Smith
email address
jsmith@domain.com -> this is an alias and anything i put in that
sales@domain.com or what have you will show up in John Smith's mailbox.
Correct?
If not please explain.

Hi,
What I would recommend is you can have two accounts and create a rule for mail forwarding using sxaa tool one account to another. For ex. incoming mail for
userA@domain.com also goes to
userB@domain.com, i.e. mails get delivered to both accounts.
For this have a look at the following post:
http://www.scalix.com/community/viewtop ... xaa+retain
Create two accounts,
sales@domain.com is existing I suppose, create another account
jsmith@domain.com and create a rule for mail forwarding using sxaa tool.
If there something else you want please let me know.
Warm Regards,
Subir

That seems to cover it. 1 Q about the sxaa rule.
If i forward all mail that goes to
sales@domain.com to
jsmith@domain.com will there be any mail in
sales@domain.com mail store?

That depends on if you make the rule "retain" the original copy or discard it, so you can set behaviour.

Ok i'm back on this again..
I understand that i can create 2 mail boxes and create a rule that will forward to the other mail box. hence creating 2 users, one will log in to check email and the other will not.
If this is the case. The user is John Smith <jsmith@domain.com>
other mail boxes that will be forwarded to John Smith will be
sales@domain.com
comments@domain.com
weborders@domain.com
location@domain.com
That would be 4 accounts that forward to
jsmith@domain.com. That is fine just if John smith gets fired then i have 4 accounts to change.
Would this also work if I did
sales@domain.com ->
location@domain.com
comments@domain.com ->
location@domain.com
weborders@domain.com ->
location@domain.com
and then do
location@domain.com ->
jsmith@domain.com
Is it recomended that this be the correct course of action? I do want the header to still say To:
sales@domain.com and not To:
location@domain.com after the forward.

Will this do what you want?
Go into SAC.
On the USERS page, choose John Smith
Just above where the email address is shown, click the "ADD ADDRESS" button.
This will allow you to add email aliases as neccessary.
The only thing that's important to know is that ALL outbound email will go out with the email address listed at the top of that list.
This will NOT create mailboxes for the aliased addresses, rather it will only deliver mail to all of those addresses to John Smith.
Any limits

Is there any limit for alias creation? or can i have any number of aliases created for a single account?

There used to be a limit. I don't know if it has changed or not. I do know I have at least a dozen aliases and they're working fine.
The previous limit was based on the number of characters, of all aliases totaled, not the number of aliases. I think it was 255 characters...
Dave/Florian, is this different now?

hope this is not 2 far off topic for this. but when adding another email address to a user it populates the domain names. the problem is that I'm working on the 3rd domain and it will only populate the first 2 domains that were entered into the server.
is there a reason for this and is it fixable?

Please start a new thread for that...
