Cannot send to one person in particular...

Ok, so I have been having some issues with my scalix server over the past couple of weeks and one issue has been resolved on a thread I started earlier today (Thanks)..

This one is a little different.

I have one friend that I am trying to send and email to and it is having issues. Here is what I know so far.

- I can go to dnsstuff.com and punch in his email address and it comes up sucessfull
- I can do an nslookup from my email server to his domain sucessfully
- I can not email to him
- the email gets stuck in the sendmail queue and its status is "Deferred: Connection timed out with domain.com"
- I can receive email from him.
- I am using public DNS servers (Verizons 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.1)

Now this is where it gets a little wierd, when I try to flush the queue and force that email to send, my servers DNS locks down. I can no longer resolve DNS while the server is trying to send this email. I can ping out the internet by IP etc, but not by name and nslookups fail..

Any ideas?

So, in an effort to resolve this I added a local bind DNS server last night and I can get rid of the DNS not resolving now.

Still cant send to this accout, but DNS doesnt lock up.

Code: Select all

Deferred: Connection timed out with domain.com.

nevermind...

I resolved this.. I was able to telnet to his mail server, but it never brought up anything more then identifying the escape key.

It ended up being a setting on my side in the firewall..

Now I can telnet in and send a message etc...

All is well now..

I am encountering the same problem on my server, sending to a specific server. What was it that you needed to change in the firewall?

Thanks

My Solution

I found my solution to actually be my pix firewall. Turns out version 7.2 can mess with ESMTP if you are inspecting ESMTP traffic. I just happened to try turning this off after reading an article about how the inspecting ESMTP can potentially block certain commands that are passed. I believe the problem was my server was responding with some of these commands, but my firewall was blocking it.

Thanks anyways for the suggestion.
